The third generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan is nearing launch time, and anticipation is running high! If you’re shopping for a crossover, you know the compact SUV class is overflowing with choices. Volkswagen brings some European flair to the segment without getting overly expensive. Although complete details on the U.S. version of the 2025 VW Tiguan near Rio Rancho, NM have yet to be divulged, we at Fiesta Volkswagen are ready to share what we know so far. Keep reading to discover more.

What’s New for 2025

Because it’s the first model of the new generation, we expect significant changes or modifications to the entire vehicle. If we use clues from the European version of the VW Tiguan, we can gain some insight as to what to expect.

The U.S. VW Tiguan will be growing in length. Even though it’s still classified as a compact crossover, the longer wheelbase will provide more room for both passengers and cargo. If you’re not interested in a full size or even a midsize SUV, the VW Tiguan is one of only a few compact crossovers to offer three rows. It also shares its platform and a similar suspension as the current VW GTI (and Audi A3), which could mean more engagement and fun for the driver!

Of course, solid details are still under wraps, but rumor has it that we can expect a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) will also be offered which will reportedly get up to 62 miles of all-electric range (based on the European model). If the company stays true to form, both powerplants will be coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

On prior models, front-wheel drive has been the standard issue, with all-wheel drive as an option. We’re betting this continues for the 2025 model. The current VW Tiguan delivers up to 184 horsepower and takes about 9 seconds to reach 60 mph. If the powertrain setup gets a boost for the new model, you can expect these performance numbers to improve.

According to the EPA, the current model’s fuel economy rates are 23/30/26 mpg for city/highway/combined. We anticipate a slight improvement for the upcoming VW Tiguan. If you choose the PHEV, you can expect much better numbers.

Interior Changes

As we mentioned, one of the most important changes is the longer length resulting in more interior space. Additional updates to the interior include VW’s famous Digital Cockpit, which replaces a traditional dashboard with a customizable digital display. This feature puts real-time updates and other information directly in the driver’s line of sight.

A few other updates include power-adjustable massaging seats, foldable second and third-row seats, and the gear selector will now be on the steering column instead of the console. A sizable 12-inch touchscreen will likely be standard in entry-level models, with a whopping 15-inch display available also. Apple CarPlay along with  Android Auto will come standard across the lineup.
