Become a watchmaker for a day and assemble your own watch
In the small town of Baar in northern Switzerland, people have the opportunity to become a watchmaker for a day and see for themselves how a watchmaker can create such a “miracle” within the space of a few inches. CIMIER, which produces 300,000 watches a year, has its factory in Baar, and is the only watch company in Switzerland that lets its customers assemble their own watches. CIMIER is the only watch company in Switzerland that allows customers to assemble their own watches. The company's sales manager Martin told reporters that the history of the brand began in 1925, but the company did not set up the factory in the Jura Mountains in western Switzerland, where many watch factories are located, but located in Baar, Baar is located in the financial center of Switzerland and the aviation center of Zurich and the famous tourist city of Lucerne, manufacturers to Zurich financing is relatively easy, and it is also close to the Zurich air port, the logistics is smooth and the products are easy to export channels. In 2008, the company began to provide customers with the service of assembling watches by themselves, and named it “Watch Academy”, in which customers become “apprentices” under the guidance of watch technicians. “The initial clientele was mostly local businesses that had their employees assemble watches and buy them as souvenirs or rewards for company anniversaries. Customers hand-assembled watches are cheaper than the same high imitation watch in a watch store, because customers do it themselves, eliminating the labor cost of assembling a watch. Since then, more and more tourists from China, Russia and other emerging countries have been attracted to this form of self-help assembly of watches, and some of them come to the factory early in the morning to be an “apprentice”, and at noon they put on their own assembled watches. Some of them come to the watch factory early in the morning as “apprentices”, and at noon, they put on their assembled watches and go to the Jungfrau, Lake Geneva and other famous spots to feel the Swiss lakes and mountains in the rotation of the hour hand. The operation room of the “Watch Academy” is about 200 square meters, and the central air-conditioning maintains the room temperature at 20 degrees Celsius, which makes people feel comfortable and calm, and the sunlight passes through the closed glass that can strictly prevent the noise and dust from disturbing the operation room, thus making the light-colored operation room look more tidy. The light-colored room is bright and clean, thanks to the sunlight that streams through the closed glass, which prevents noise and dust. “To be a watchmaker, you have to have a calm mind,” says Mr. Auguste, a watchmaker. ”Here, if you calm down, you can hear the gears interlocking and the hands turning.”
There are a dozen or so operating tables in the operation room. On the desk-sized operating table, there is a touch-screen smartphone on the left side, a light green operating mat in the middle, on which there are a one-eyed magnifying glass for watch technicians, a movement holder for fixing the watch movement, a blow-up balloon for dust removal and a LED spotlight, and a compact black tool box with six small drawers on the right side, in which screwdrivers, tweezers and other delicate tools in different colors are arranged in a neat manner. The “apprentices” who are assembling the watch, like Mr. Ögürstle, are wearing white operating suits with hidden compartments, adjusting the height of the chairs and the lights, while Mr. Ögürstle and his colleagues explain the purpose of each tool and the precautions to be taken when assembling the watch. The details of the assembly steps are reflected on a screen by a projector, and can be accessed at any time by the “apprentices” using a smartphone on the operating table. The “apprentices” are required to put rubber finger cuffs on their left thumbs, forefingers, and middle fingers to prevent oil from sticking to the precision parts. The assembly of the movement then begins, which is the most important task in the process of assembling a watch. According to the steps, we gently pick up different sizes of gears and plates with tweezers, and install them on the movement which is full of organs. Mr. Auguste closely observed the assembling process, reminding us not to exert too much force when tightening the screws, and not to distort our wrists when picking up the parts in order to prevent our hands from trembling, and he also checked the quality of the assembled movement by the “apprentices” and checked the quality of the parts installed on the movement at any time. Quality, to see whether the parts mounted on the movement rotate freely a novice without any knowledge of watches, if the hands of more than 300 parts through 93 procedures to assemble a watch, it will take four hours.
Like Mr. Ergosteel, an experienced senior technician, the same watch he can assemble 6 pieces per hour Customers can choose from 13 cases, 10 dials, 11 kinds of hands and 18 kinds of straps in the style of their choice with random, if the combination of the way to count, they have 5940 different styles to match, you can guarantee that their own assembly of the watch is totally After the “unique”, they will buckle the dial on the movement, put on the watch pin, use the blowing balloon to blow on the inside of the case glass repeatedly several times to make sure that the inside of the glass is clean, and then put the movement which has been loaded with the dial and the watch pin into the case, insert the knob for adjusting the hour hand, i.e. the dragon core, and then complete the main body of the watch body assembly procedure, and finally carve the name on the back cover after the watch belt has been fitted. After the name is engraved on the back cover, the process of assembling the watch is completed. After the 4-hour highly concentrated assembly process, everyone pours wine, tastes the exquisite snacks, exchanges their own experience with the friends who came together to assemble the watch, and remembers the excitement and happiness of assembling the watch with their own hands successfully “Normally, I can only see the appearance of the watch, but in the assembly of the watch, the watch is assembled by the watchmaker.
