JPC meet on Waqf Bill will address concerns in Northeast, says Chairman Pal
The meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, chaired by JPC chairman Jagdambika Pal, began in Guwahati on Saturday. Representatives from Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura also participated in the meeting, where their concerns on the bill were recorded.
At the meeting here today, officials from the Assam government, the state Waqf board, the Assam State Minority Commission, legal experts from the High Court, and other relevant stakeholders participated in the discussions. Pal emphasised the need for regional insights, particularly regarding the unique challenges of managing Waqf properties in Northeast India.
