The mesothelium is an important membrane which covers and protects most of the internal organs of our body. It is composed of two layers of cells: one surrounds the internal organs immediately whereas another forms a sac around it. The main function of this membrane is to secrete lubricating fluids to allow moving organs to glide smoothly against adjacent organs.
