By early November 41 counties in Alabama have been designated as primary natural disaster areas and 11 additional counties are classified as contiguous by the U.S. Department of Agriculture due to damages and losses caused by the drought. Rainfall ranging from more than 4 inches to almost 15 inches would be needed to break the drought across the state. More than half the state 61.89 percent has been classified as having either severe, extreme or exceptional drought conditions. The east and northeast sections of Alabama have been hardest hit by this year's financing agriculture drought. What to do about livestock during this drought and resources available to livestock producers is the subject of a seminar to be held Dec. 1 and the public is invited. According to Dale County Extension Coordinator Thomas Agee, everyone interested can attend the meeting, which will be held at the Ariton Baptist Church located at 157 Atlantic Road in Ariton. http://www.southeastsun.com/daleville/article_b7
