About this blog

Every month, as Aunt Flo makes her grand arrival, we manage cramps, mood swings, and a mad run to the restroom, coping with a flood that appears with every cough or sneeze.

It's a monthly issue that many of us experience from our early teens, around the age of 12, until we reach 45—though the timing varies. Even though we're used to this pattern, it's interesting how rarely the term "menstruation" is used outside of medical situations. Instead, we use a variety of inventive nicknames to describe a well-known but frequently unsaid experience.

The Cycle Circus

Because dealing with your period can be like navigating a carnival of symptoms and urges.

Leak Week

Simple and concise. What else could you ask for?

The Red Sea

A striking metaphor for the flood of menstruation that occurs each month.

Crimson Tide

A dramatic way to describe the start of your menstruation, with a nod to the flood of emotions and discomfort that comes with it.

Flow Show

A continuous show in which your period takes center stage, with all of its ups and downs.

The Hormone Hurricane

When your emotions and body feel as if they are being carried away in a hurricane.

Menstrual Mayhem

When everything feels chaotic and out of control, similar to how your period might be.

The Red Alert

A monthly notification that makes its presence known.

Aunt Flo

The tight-lipped English word got famous in the last few years. Aunt Flo pretends that your much-loved aunt is coming to visit.

Sari Saga

Just like a sari wraps around you, this phase wraps you in its embrace.
