TEMIKABradshaw: DHL chooses ICRON APS for pipeline logistics analysis DHL Industrial Logistics has selected ICRON Technologies Singapore to assist them with advanced analysis and modelling for a major gas pipeline tender in Australasia. The project involves the shipment of around 200,000 metric tonnes of pipe from Peninsular Malaysia to Papua New Guinea, a distance of around 2,800 nautical miles. The arrival base is not suitable for ocean going vessels, so barge transhipment for the final 50 nautical miles is necessary. Commenting on the operation, DHL Vice President of Industrial Projects, Rufus Frere Smith said “This operation is particularly challenging as we have to complete the delivery of pipes in the right order and within a 9 month weather window with a close eye on costs.” The calculated cost and throughput of the proposed transhipment is dependent on dynamic factors, modelled by ICRON using a Discrete Event Simulation model.
